Oh my. What a haunting and transcendent story to read this morning. I am reminded of how lucky I was to be born in a time and place where and when I could marry my wife.

There's some similarity between 'The Door' and one of the essays in "Christmas Days" - namely, 'The Second-Best Bed'. Set in different environments, albeit the similarity regarding the lovers being entombed, still both stories are very atmospheric, poignant and thrilling and it was a pleasure to read them. I made a little experiment as I read 'The Door': I started to read this story, while 'Celtic Christmas' by Wendy Jensen was playing in Youtube, a sweet sound reminding of a music box, sounding harmless. When the story started to become darker, I switched the music to "A playlist for a Moody Autumn", which matched perfectly as background music till the end of the tale. I highly recommend suitable soundtrack while reading such stories.
